One of those in the governorship race on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the earlier period of the campaign, Mr Jimoh Ibrahim, has congratulated Mr Rotimi Akeredolu on his victory in the Ondo governorship election.
He also went on to endorse him as one who will make a good governor.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday, declared the APC candidate, winner of the 2016 Ondo state governorship election.
Ibrahim, at a time, was the candidate of the PDP in the race, after the final candidate, Eyitayo Jegede had his name replaced by that of Jimoh Ibrahim by INEC, in obedience to a court judgment.
Although, the Appeal Court later disqualified Jimoh Ibrahim and reinstated Eyitayo Jegede as the rightful owner of the PDP ticket, the ruling came just few days to the election which INEC refused to postpone.
There was also a call by the PDP candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, for a postponement of the election owing to his inability to campaign but the electoral body insisted that it would not shift the election, as it had printed and initiated processes for the election.
Jegede went on to lose the election, coming second behind Akeredolu.
Akeredolu polled 244,842 votes while Eyitayo Jegede polled 150,380 votes. Mr Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) follows with 126, 889 votes.
In congratulating his former rival, Mr Ibrahim warned the governor-elect to avoid his fellow PDP member and the outgoing Governor Olusegun Mimiko when the baton of leadership eventually gets to him.
He also said that the accounts of Ondo state require urgent audit, advising the governor-elect to do so quickly.
